The Spotlight Program Application

General Admission Requirements

  • Participant must be between 2.5 and 22 years old.  Exceptions will be made on an individual basis.
  • Participant is able to be served with the program’s staff to participant ratio. This determination will be made following the interview and review of the child’s IEP and any behavior management plan that is in place.
  • Minimally, participants will be expected to be able to follow instructions reliably, make their needs known, take care of their personal needs (e.g. eating or toileting), and to ambulate or use a wheelchair with minimal physical assistance.
  • The Program Director reserves the right to require additional information if deemed necessary.

Non-Discrimination Policy
No person who meets the admission requirements (above) shall be denied admission or otherwise discriminated against on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, age, or disability. Participants who require personalized assistance due to mobility or safety issues in the community may not be eligible for this program. Determinations will be made taking into consideration the whole range of needs presented by program participants, and our ability to ensure the safety of all.

Interview
Once your child’s application has been received, we will call to schedule an interview with you and your child. This is an opportunity for parents to learn more about the program as well as a chance for us to get to know your child. There will be time for your child to play a few of the games that are incorporated into the curriculum and to express any goals or needs that you or your child may have.

This hour-long, informal interview serves the following purposes:

  • it allows you to see the Spotlight model in action and get to know some of the staff who will be working with your child
  • the positive interaction between our staff and your child acts as a great foundation for the transition into attending one of our groups
  • we get a chance to assess your child for the purposes of finding a placement that will facilitate the greatest chance for success

Registration
If your child is accepted into the program, the next step will be to register for the present or upcoming semester. Without a registration form your child will be unable to participate in a group. Registration forms must be completed for each semester that you would like your child to participate (i.e., spring and April vacation groups).

Groups run on a semester basis: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, in addition to February, April and August vacations. You must submit a completed registration form and deposit each semester you wish your child to attend. A deposit equal to 50% of tuition must be received by the date indicated on the registration form for the semester in which you are enrolling your child.
